MSc

MSc in Climate and Environmental Science

Programme overview

Study interactions between the atmosphere, ocean, land and cryosphere through observation, statistics and environmental modelling. Develop reliable environmental data analysis and evidence-based interpretation of change. Advanced study develops climate datasets, polar-system analysis and independent environmental research.

Environnement & Industrie Durable Paris — Paris College of Environment and Sustainable Industry. Duration: 2 years.

MSc study builds on relevant undergraduate foundations, with advanced methods, complex cases and independent research or applied projects.

Study pathways

Climate observation and modelling; polar environments; environmental data and remote sensing. All pathways share a common core. Indicate your preferred pathway when applying; actual availability is confirmed before admission.

Learning outcomes

Develop earth systems skills in advanced analysis: atmosphere, ocean, land and ice, explaining methods, evidence and limitations.

Develop environmental observation skills in advanced analysis: sampling, measurement and quality, explaining methods, evidence and limitations.

Develop data analysis skills in advanced analysis: statistics and reproducible workflows, explaining methods, evidence and limitations.

Develop spatial methods skills in advanced analysis: remote sensing and geographic information, explaining methods, evidence and limitations.

Develop climate modelling skills in advanced analysis: processes, scenarios and uncertainty, explaining methods, evidence and limitations.

Develop environmental project skills in advanced analysis: observation and interpretation, explaining methods, evidence and limitations.

Study progression

Year 1: deepen specialist methods, undertake literature or case research and define an independent project.

Year 2: complete a research or applied project, evaluate methods and outcomes, and submit a final report and oral defence.

Projects and practice

Complete an independent climate or polar-environment research project with reproducible methods.

Document the problem, working process, personal contribution, validation evidence and limitations. Individual contributions are assessed within team projects. Placements and external projects depend on actual arrangements.

Teaching and assessment

Theory, computational laboratories, system simulations, data workshops and project reviews use public, synthetic or authorised information. The programme focuses on scientific and civilian applications.

Assignments, case or laboratory work, staged projects and the final defence assess accuracy, methods, evidence quality, practical reliability and communication. Assessment weightings, reassessment and extension rules are published before teaching begins. Moodle may support resources, assignments, quizzes and feedback; specialist practical activities are assessed separately.

Entry requirements

Provide evidence of relevant undergraduate study or equivalent experience. Applicants should demonstrate mathematics and science foundations appropriate to the programme. MSc applicants should explain relevant environmental, engineering, energy or data study.

Submit education evidence, transcripts, a CV, a motivation statement and any requested project materials. Teaching language, language evidence and document-translation requirements are published for the intake. Website language does not determine teaching language.

Completion and institutional diploma

Complete the required modules and assessments, final project and oral defence. The programme leads to an institutional MSc diploma in Climate and Environmental Science.

Career development

Environmental research projects; climate data analysis; environmental modelling. Employment depends on individual skills, experience and employer requirements. Regulated work requires the applicable qualifications and authorisations. Further study is assessed by the receiving institution.

Applications

Select this programme and study level in the preliminary application. Admissions reviews the materials and contacts the applicant. A preliminary application does not constitute admission or a payment commitment.
